Hi,
We went to Cairo and The Pyramids last Easter whilst on a Thomson cruise with our younger kids (20 and 23!!) I can recommend booking a guide via the internet prior to your going . We booked with Memphis Tours and the guide met us at the dockside with an air con cruiser and we were taken where WE wanted to go. The personal guide took us around the museum, pyramids and City of the Dead etc. We avoided the perfume and carpet factories and paid a lot less than organised trips yet had the freedom we required. We tipped at the end. We did 2 trips with Memphis Tours, The Pyramids/Cairo and also to Luxor when the ship docked in Surfaga. Excellent and they are reliable ,on time and courteous. get your Galabaya's from one of the temple markets, its so much cheaper than the boat, we found this out after buying them on the boat, we had entertainment every night, a very funny treasure hunt, quiz, galabaya night etc, really friendly staff on the boat too, very clean, couldn,t fault anything, take some pens for the kids who come to the waters edge when you dock and the little plastic camera film tubs, the kis jump into the nile to retreive anything money wise you put in them, also sweets.
