Cruise review
Thomson Spirit June 2007 to Arctic Circle

We’ve now been on about 7 cruises and this was possibly the best yet. The weather was astounding. We’d taken an extra case full of cold and wet weather gear and didn’t need any of it. Apart from early morning chills it was strictly shorts and T-shirts. Sunbathing at midnight on the longest day whilst anchored off the North Cape, the northern most part of Europe, was an experience like seeing the Grand Canyon, walking across Table Mountain, or watching Victoria Falls. We thought it might be light but not bright and warm.

The cruise visited about 12 ports and we had loads of time in each. Each town was subtly different from the last and other than Bergen none were lively. All had enough and more to keep us occupied be it window shopping, walking out of town, catching funiculars to the tops of mountains. Venturing too far from the ship was costly both in terms of fares and / or the cost of food and drink. Why pay £6.00 for a coffee when the ship is only a few yards away.

We were wary about our cabin being in the bowels of the ship. Our porthole was frequently submerged but the exhilaration of seeing the waves whip by just inches below the porthole was like being on a speedboat but without the noise and discomfort of being thrown all over the sea. We’ve booked the Baltic Cruise this year in the same cabin it was so good.

The food and the staff were all great although how they can genuinely be so happy all the time is beyond me. Whilst cabaret is not our thing, everyone said the evening’s entertainment was superb. The cruise was 14 nights and we only found time once to go to the cinema.

At the end of the cruise we went to Reception to complain that we had found nothing to complain about the entire holiday. Thanks everyone involved at Thomson.

We must be following the people from Barrowford (lived there once 25 years ago) We were on the same cruise to the North Cape, it was wonderful. We are going to the Baltic with the Celebration this year. I expect it will be just as good
