Thomson - Customer Service? I think not!

I have just been treated so badly by Thomson staff that I am absolutely hopping made. Three months ago I booked a mini cruise to Ireland on Thomson Celebration for myself and my sister in law as her birthday treat. I also recommended the trip to two colleagues and, indeed, made a separate booking on their behalf. It was booked over the telephone from a number on the internet site. The girl who processed my booking said that the balance was due on 28th August. A week or so later I received confirmation which also gave me a balance due date of 28th August, stated that this document was the formal contract between us, and that I would receive a formal invoice about 10 weeks before departure. I did not receive any further invoice but at the 10 week stage I received a letter, dated 11th August, to say that my balance, due on the 28th August, was now overdue! Today, 20th August, I have reeived a Final Demand which threatens to cancel my holiday and take further action if I have not paid by 25th August.
Absolutely mystified, I telephoned the Customer Service Department, spoke to a Manager there, and can only say that the subsequent conversation was absolutely unbelievable. She could not accept that there had been some sort of mistake. She argued that my balance was due on the 14th August, despite my paperwork showing the 28th August. She was absolutely immovable. All I really wanted was them to admit they had made a mistake and to apologise - but she told me that there had been no mistake and that no apology was due. I cannot believe that I had three separate pieces of paper in my hand and all gave the date of 28th August. I am so mad and also embarrased as I expect that my colleagues will have had a similar letter. My husband and I have had many, many holidays with Thomson, including cruises, and we were about to book Destiny for the Carribean in January. We will never travel with them again. I cannot believe that Thomson employ such ignorant administration staff.

I do feel for you and know exactly what you went through. Some years ago we (my husband and I) were on the maiden voyage of the Celebration which as all seasoned cruisers know was aborted half way through the trip. The staff onboard were absolutely fantastic and made every effort to make what few days we had left of our holiday (we were some of the few passengers who sailed back to the UK) as enjoyable as possible. The problem came when we got back and tried to claim the compensation, that every passenger was offered, and the credit we had owing to us on our bill which had come about for trips we had paid for and obviously did not go on. The customer services were the worst I have ever had to deal with! They were rude, uneducated and unhelpful. We eventually got everything sorted some months after – likewise we never got an apology either from them either. They ought to take a leaf out of book of the staff on the ship.

Interesting comments below !!!!!!!! But the simple point is Mr/Mrs Winstanaley were let down by customer service before even stepping on a boat. All the rubbish (and that was not my first choice of words) about spellin and gramma is frankly detracting from the point that good "service" was not recieved by them. And if that was a sample of whats to come on the boat I dont envy them. We all know that good service can be had from all the cruise operators, so why do they get these sudden lapses? Anyway I hope you have a good cruise, and i hope the "english inspectors" can get a life. Regards Dennis J (no "A" level, no "O" level but a happy cruiser)

It's becoming impossible to follow some of the threads on here because of the dreadful standard of written English by a significant number of contributors. I can say thought that I have cruised with Thomson three times and rate them as better than anyone else I have cruised with.

Oops..people in glass houses...comes to mind- you have used 'thought' instead of, I presume, 'though'..tut, tut, standard of written English and all that, or maybe you, like the other posters, made typing mistakes
