Stinking Celebration

The staff on this ship are excellent, most helpful friendly staff we have ever had. Iceland was very interesting and we had fantastic weather in Iceland, poor weather the rest of the time.

The cabin was a very good size, recently decorated. The bathroom was a disgrace. We had a strong sewer smell all cruise. The cruise staff tried hard to stop the smell and did make it a little better. We could not swap cabins because many other people had the same problem and had asked to swap before we did. We did get a very small amount of compensation, as did many others. The romour was that this has been a problem for months and could not be sorted out.
The worst part of the cruise was the dinning room food. After eating in the dinning room for 7 nights, we gave up eating in the dinning room and eat in the Lido buffet (first time we have every had to do this in over 40 cruises). In the dinning room every piece of meat we had (including chicken) was tough, every meal every day had the same vegetables. At least with the food in the buffet, it was easy to try a bit of lots of things and find something that was good. Also you could always get hot food on hot plates, which is not always the case on other ships. So many people were eating in the buffet in the evening we often had to queue.
Evening entertainment was good, could have done with more outside entertainment. Sea day daytime entertainment was very poor, with very little choice. Every day the only thing starting before 11:00am was the library was open!

My whole family were on this cruise, and I overheard a number of people who had problems with the plumbing in their cabins. Our toilet refused to flush only twice, and the problem was soon resolved. But our son and his family had to constantly run taps and shower for 20 minutes to get clean water. However, we found the food to be very good in the restaurant, and we only occasionally had to wait in a short queue at the Lido if we were there at peak time. There were masses of things you could do on board, not all of them to our taste, but the crew certainly tried to please everyone. The excursion to the cliffs on the Faroes was outstanding, and the weather was excellent. Weather in Norway was wet only some of the time, and the low cloud around the moutains enhanced the scenery. A minor blip for us was Thomsons not posting the 10 cards we paid them to, none entrusted to Reception with postage paid for have arrived.

I went on the Thomson Celebration in early July doing the Treasures of the Baltic - I really don't know what you're talking about - the food in the restaurant was very nice and as for the onboard facilities, there was loads to do or see - did you not look at your cruise news?! Bathroom was old, yes, but my cabin was perfectly clean with no smells, clean towels twice a day and surfaces/toilet cleaned also twice a day. I've not been on as many cruises as you but this was my fourth and definitely my favourite - I loved Thomson Celebration. I am notoriously hard to please with regard to bathroom facilities but even I after a couple of days and a few near panic struck moments with regard to the vacuum flush toilets got used to it. Believe me, if I didn't run screaming from the loos then no one would. I was gutted to leave the ship and am on tenterhooks waiting for my boyfriend to say that we can go on the Celebtation again next year.
