Thomson Celebration - December 2007

Cruise Ship: Thomson Celebration Sailed: December, 2007
Destination: Red Sea Age: 36-45
Having travelled on a number of more upmarket cruises, I went on the Thomson Celebration with an open mind. All I can say is that I didnt have to worry. Yes,it is an older ship and does not have the facilities and grandieur of the new ships but this is made up with the warmth and friendliness onboard. Our Deluxe Cabin was spacious, clean, nice toiletries and serviced twice a day. My ownly complaint is that we were on Deck Nine and during certain parts of the day you could hear sunbeds being dragged on the deck above. The entertainment was great with some brilliant afternoon short plays and the 'Africa' Production show was amazing. The guest artist was a comedian who was ok but failed to find his audience first so some of his jokes did not get the laughts they may have. Food on board was excellant and a visit to Aldo Zilli's Celebrity Restaurant was well worth it. Staff are friendly from Captain down to Cabin Boy. Captain Roy is probably the best Captain I have cruised with and his afternoon talk was wonderful and funny.

We enjoyed this ship so much we have four more cruises taking us upto October 2009. I think this says everything.
Quality of Food5
We ate in all restaurants and the standard was the same.
Entertainment4
The Production Team shows including afternoon plays could not be faulted but like most cruise lines the visiting artists seem to have passsed their sell by dates. The comedian sunk before the Titanic.
Shore Excursions3
Long Days in the Red Sea Magic Cruise. But the complimentary snack pack when we left and the hot towel and juice on our return was very welcome.

Onboard Activities4
Cabins4
Large clean and comfortable. We have booked the same cabin again this year.

Great to hear good reviews . going on 1st cruise in march (red sea magic ) as love history. Can anyone tell me how dress for captains cocktail night went as I understand its a posh frock occasion and we love to dress up for our evenings out. Dont want to go and feel a plonker for going OTT. not bothered about cabin as its only a base.

Its not too formal they like gents to at least wear a suit and tie but there was a lot of men wearing dinner jackets. Ladies tended to wear cocktail dresses or longer dresses. Hope this helps.

The Cabins are great, large, nicely furnished, mini bar, tv etc. The only fault was the dragging of sunbeds in the morning and evening but nothing too bad. We went on P&Os Oceana and had the same problem. It would seem that Deluxe Cabins because of there higher location get the same problem. Enjoy your holiday!
