Q: HI All,

I am going on the Thomson Celebration over new year. We have booked a deluxe cabin on deck 7. We also have a free drinks package, what is included within this? Can anyone advise if they have stayed on this deck and can you supply any information on what the accomodation is like? Also anyone advise if the ship has any sort of sports channel's onboard?

Hi We have stayed on the Celebration a couple of times. We were on deck 8but will be the same as deck 7 deluxe. If you specifically want a double bed you have to ring thomson and request a particular cabin No. If one is available it will cost you £35. The cabins are really nice and the staff all over the ship are wonderful. Entertainment is1st class. Drinks package includes everything except bottled water and some more expensive spirits. But you can get smirnoff vodka for instance at no extra cost. Dont know about sports tv sorry. Enjoy! We are going on 19 Jan and are looking fwd once again to a great cruise.

I have recently stayed in a Deck 7 Deluxe cabin. It was extremely pleasant and a good size - window at far end, then two beds down each side, a curtain across if required, then a long dressing table and mirror down one-side - t.v. was on top at one end and mini bar was underneath. There was an occasional table and two chairs on the opposite side. Wardrobes opposite the bathroom as usual. Plenty of drawer and cupboard space. Didn't really bother with the television but don't think a lot on. They did show a couple of football matches in, I think, the cinema. Furnishings in the cabin are quite attractive, bathroom had bath and shower over - not terribly big but adquate and we had very nice bathrobes. Celebration has been in for a refurb. since we were on board which I understand was mainly for soft furnishings but don't know if this was the cabins or just the public areas. You will love the Celebration - we do - and the Spirit - and we are trying the Destiny for the first time in January. You can really have a good time onboard and be extremely well entertained. We have been on the QM2 this year - she is absolutely beautiful and our stateroom was gorgeous but we didn't have nearly as much fun and laughter as we have on the Thomson ships. Have a fantastic time and don't go to bed early!!!!! Sandie

As Aspinall said all the spirits offered are branded (except the premium drinks and bottled water) and on the all inclusive list. However if your tipple is say G&T you will see on the bar price lists "Cruise Gin and Tonic". This is not a branded gin. If you want a Gordons Gin then specify it. In the late even particularly when the waiter comes over and you say G&T it won't matter if you have been drinking Gordons previously there is a chance you will get this inferior spirit. Another thing to watch about the all inclusive is a certain monitoring of your drinking - no matter how well you handle your alcohol. If you are in one bar for a couple of hours of an evening you might find that your first drink is fine - full strength, the second one is marginally weaker and the third etc are becoming progressively weaker. However if you go to one bar and order your drink and get the standard strength, then move to another bar you will again get the standard strength. I don't know why they do this unless its because of those who are all inclusive and determined to drink their own body weight in alcohol throughout the cruise. Best way to avoid this totally is to find the bar you really like early in the cruise, find your preferred seating area where you should be assured of the same bar waiter/waitress and give them tip early on - I believe they share these with the bar keepers. Enjoy your cruise - the Celebration has a great atmosphere.

I have been all inclusive with Thomsons Cruises many times and not wishing to disa gree with everything that has been said by Kennedy, I would have to say that some of the things he says have not been our experience. I have sailed on Celebration twice now and the only things that we have had to pay a small suplement for are certain drinks like Ammaretto and the more expensive cognacs, but if G &T is your tipple specify what you want and you will get it, the same applies to Whiskey and vodka. Beer drinkers have Stella and Boddingtons as their A/I beers but if you want Draft guiness or Nwcastle Brown then you have to pay a supplement. The other really important thing to consider with A/I is that it also includes all your soft drinks in the day and I don't just mean the squirty pops but cans of fanta, Cola etc. Also something which we really like is that you can have waiter served coffees and teas throughout the day which I think anyone will agree that it beats the hell out of polystyrene beakers from the buffet bar. I hope this has been helpful to you and by the way if your Captain is Alan Leach, that's an extra bonus, he's brilliant and keeps you well informed in a very relaxed and lighthearted style.........happy cruising

There was no 'cruise G&T' on the bar list I have from Celebration and it states that ALL spirits are served as 40ml measures except where stated. so there should be no watering down of the spirits. Note that the measure is larger than the standard pub measure and you have to be careful!. The bar staff do keep an eye on the quantity you drink which should be part of any bartenders duty.

just to add a bit of clarity, all the spirits included free on the all inclusive package are pukka stuff , bacardi, smirnoff etc, not the joe bloggs paraffin type stuff that tends to get served up on most sup as much as you can deals. draught beers are boddingtons and stella lager. a good tip is get the lovely fresh coffee (all inclusive free) served by the bar waiters rather than the bulk brewed stuff available self service. never been above deck 6 but i would imagine the cabins are the same, more than adequate. not usually a lot available on tv. if you have not been on celebration before you should find it a friendly ship with a fantastic staff, what its lacks in grandeur is more than compensated by the social atmosphere ,unless you happen to be a miserable git
