Q:
We have just booked on Thomsons Celebration for October. Being smokers, I am concerned to hear a rumour that Celebration is now a totally non smoking ship. Is the nanny state at it again. What about smokers 'human rights?. If the namby pamby brigade don't want to smoke, what right have they to impose a blanket ban EVERYWHERE - just dedicate at least one bar to smokers. that way they can't whinge.
I have found on a lot of ships that when all the best seats have been taken on the non-smoking side of a lounge, the non-smokers then pinch all the best seats on the smoking side, wrinkling their noses when we light up. They seem to be very selfish, and want it all ways. Still, that is the way of these people these days. Anybody know if smoking IS banned on Celebration?

Hi Nicholson.Unfortuanately there will not be anywhere inside the ship to smoke. My wife and I have just returned from Destiny- same situation.Just dont book another holiday with Thomson. There are plenty of alternatives to choose from but you must research.Try to enjoy your cruise.
Ignore the adverse comments. They are all from ex smokers who would be better off starting again.

Lucy Bunnette and Burrows are exactly the type of overbearing, 'force my opinion on everyone' type of person I am referring to. All I ask is that one bar, just one bar, be dedicated to smokers. The reference to the billions of pounds spent by the NHS on smokers is laughable. Without the smokers paying at least twice as much in taxes than non-smokers, the NHS would have gone bust years ago.

f.a.o. mr/mrs/ms Burrows...I don't think a cruise forum is the place to lecture anyone on whether they should be smoking or not.....or drinking, or gambling for that matter. This is a free country and we should be able to choose how to live our lives and if we choose to smoke then that is our choice...I speak as a non smoker.

Excuse me mr/mrs/ms Morris, but if mr/mrs/ms Nicholson had simply enquired as to the Smoking policy onboard Thomson Celebration (as per a cruise question forum) instead of sounding off about "human rights", "namby pamby brigades" and "The Nanny State", as well as refering to non-smokers as "these people", then perhaps I would have been simply able to answer the question without the "lecture" as you refer to my previous comment! As I stated previously, if either smokers or non-smokers are not happy with the smoking policy onboard Thomson or any other cruise lines ships, then they are FREE to stay away! There is certainly no need to take out their personal frustrations on fellow passengers, whether or not they are smokers. Happy cruising.

Burrows appears to like the sound of his own pompous opinions. He has got more posts than the Australian kangaroo fence

Then perhaps Mr Nicholson should take his comments concerning the "Nanny State", the "Namby Pamby Brigade" and "Human Rights" to another forum, and stick to enquiring about the smoking policy onboard the Thomson Celebration in a controlled manner? It is HIS offensive comments concerning the attitude of non smokers that lead to my comments. In case you did not read my "lecture" properly, I did actually highlight the fact that his smoking WAS entirely his OWN CHOICE myself, and if he didn't like Thomsons policy on smoking then he was FREE to stay away! Please do not overlook this Mr/Mrs/Ms Morris! Happy cruising.

Sorry to repeat myself! The comment that I submitted yesterday afternoon was not posted until AFTER the comment submitted THIS MORNING for some reason? I would obviously not have written the second comment this morning if I had realised that the first one would EVENTUALLY be posted! My apologies. Happy cruising.

Thomson changed their policy on smoking and now there is no smoking allowed anywhere inside the ship, not even in cabins. There is a case over on cruisecritic website where a cruiser booked his cruise when the policy was some smoking areas inside, mid year they changed this and now he is seeking a full refund so he can go on a different cruise that has designated smoking bars- there are quite a few cruiselines that allow this by the way and it works well, but yes, non smokers come in the smoking bars too! strange!

I don't think that smoking to totally banned on Celebration but with people like you around it probably will be. With your attitude you will just ruin any chances you had of a reasonable hearing. Think on matey!!!!

When you go to someone else's home, country, car OR SHIP, you abide by THEIR rules and regulations. If you don't like it, then stay at home! You can smoke to your hearts content there and only risk killing your nearest and dearest! NOBODY is responsible for your decision to smoke except YOU. So start facing up to the fact that it is YOUR problem, and stop expecting others to put up with this revolting habit as a matter of course! We all came into this world as non-smokers. It is YOU that has changed, not the non-smokers, so stop implying that it is US who have the problem! And by the way, it is the "Nanny State" that pays out billions of pounds a year through the National Health Service to keep people like you alive! You should thank God it is there, cos it certainly wouldn't be if common sense had anything to do with it! And believe me, I have seen it at first hand. Perhaps you should have read Thomson Cruises booking conditions, and then you would not have had to rely on rumours to find out about their ships smoking policy? Happy cruising.
